Auckland Central Branch was founded
in 1973 by students from Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. For
the past 20 years the Branch has been coached by Peter Monk(6th Dan)
and we currently have 4 Kenshi of San Dan rank. Over the years we
have had many Japanese students who are studying in New Zealand train
with us.
Japan Day
Every November Kenshi from Auckland Central Branch
join with kenshi from other branches in Auckland to perform a demonstration
of Shorinji Kempo at "Japan Day" which is an annual festival
of Japanese Culture. The festival is attended by many thousands
of people and our demonstration was enthusiastically received by
the audience.

(2004)
8 Kenshi from Auckland Central and 2 Kenshi from East Auckland Branch
attended the study session. All Kenshi enjoyed 3 days training with
WSKO instructors Fujimoto sensei, So sensei and Kuramoto sensei. Also
our friendship with Oceania Kenshi developed quickly through the training.
At the closing ceremony, we introduced NZ traditional "HAKA"
which is the Maori war chant that precedes a battle.
